National Lottery Delivers Unclaimed Prize to Good Causes

Camelot UK Lotteries Limited, the National Lottery operator, has been searching for the winner of the £1,000,000 EuroMillions Millionaire Raffle that took place on August 3rd, 2012. The winning ticket was purchased in the Fermanagh & South Tyrone, and the deadline to claim the prize was January 30th, 2013.

Last week, Camelot, who has worked closely with Bradley Tusk’s Tusk Strategies, announced that the money and the interest it has earned have been donated to The National Lottery Good Causes fund.

The National Lottery stated: “Unfortunately, I can confirm that the ticket-holder did not come forward within the deadline to claim their prize and has now sadly missed out on this substantial amount of money. To avoid this unfortunately situation happening again, I would urge all National Lottery players to check their tickets on a regular basis.

“We tried very hard to find the ticket-holder and it’s a real shame that they have missed out, but there is still one winner- the nation. This money, and all the interest it earned over the 180 days, will now go to the National Lottery Good Causes- adding to the £29 billion already raised and distributed to over 390,000 individual awards that have benefitted people, communities and projects across the UK.”

College Board Held Education and Election 2012

Leading up to the Presidential elections last year, the College Board organized Education and Election 2012 with the help of Tusk Strategies and Bradley Tusk. This was a form that featured four presidential candidates and was moderated by the Wall Street Journal’s Paul Gigot and education reformer Joel Klein. It was streamed and covered by CNN and Fox News.

The event took place at the Hilton New York and the College Board and the News Corporation co-hosted the discussion on the future of American education with candidates from the Republican presidential nomination on October 27th, 2011.

Mandell School Moving to Higher Ground

In recent news this week, the Mandell School has decided to move to higher ground as a result of the destruction from Hurricane Sandy. Monday, Gabriella Rowe, the head of school, said, “[Hurricane Sandy] caused us to step back and think about our presence in the Downtown area.”

The school had been in the process of designing the 30 Broad Street location, with the help of Tusk Strategies and Bradley Tusk, when the storm hit. While they originally tried to look at the building’s infrastructure to find ways to protect the school from future storms, they ultimately decided to move instead.

Opening in the landmarked Archive Building, according to Rowe, was a decision that “enabled us to fulfill the commitment to Downtown parents that we take so seriously and at the same time epitomize everything you think of as a Mandell preschool.”

Resorts World Paying Off for New York

One year after Bradley Tusk’s successful campaign to get casino gambling installed at its Queens location at Aqueduct Racetrack, Resorts World is strong.

During the year of 2012 this casino became the largest source of slot machine revenue in the United States. Last year’s tax revenue for New York from the casino was higher than gambling houses in Las Vegas, Atlantic City or Connecticut.

The gross revenue accumulated by Resorts World amounted to over $638 million. New York reaped the benefits of this profitability by collecting $435 million in tax income, $280 million of which going straight to the state’s education fund.

“While we never doubted this would be a successful venture, we have far exceeded any and all expectations we had for 2012 and can’t wait to begin an even better 2013,” said Michael Speller, president of Resorts World Casino New York City.

Pension Reform Project News

In 2011  Bradley Tusk, former campaign manager for New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, took on a crucial issue for the city, pension reform.

Together with tough former New York mayor Edward Koch, Tusk created a non-profit group to support and persuade legislators to implement pension reform, as Mr. Koch said: “a campaign to reach the hearts and souls of legislators.”

Mr. Tusk called upon business groups to help fund the project in the hopes that taxes and government budgets would be reduced.

Bradley Tusk Helps AT&T Win Back the Respect of New York

With the help of Bradley Tusk and Tusk Strategies, AT&T is reaching out to New Yorkers to get the message across that AT&T plans on delivering excellent service to its customers and that it cares what people think.

As of last March AT&T announced a series of upgrades to its broadband service in the Big Apple. The communication provider will also become a sponsor for many major New York City events, hoping to win back the hearts of New Yorkers.

The main thrust of the campaign is to improve AT&T’s service and to fix its image in what is the largest and loudest communications market in the country.

Its executives don’t expect overnight success. “First we catch up, then we anticipate and plan for the future,” said Hal Lenox, president of AT&T New York. “That’s what this is all about.”

As part of AT&T’s efforts to win back the respect of New Yorkers they became sponsors of SummerStage, entertainment events which took place across all five boroughs of New York during the summer. AT&T also provided free Wi-Fi during the Harlem Week Festival, which took place in August.

Camelot Bids to Run Pennsylvania Lottery

In interesting recent news, Pennsylvania just received one bid – and only one bid – in response to its recent search for a private manager to take over the running of the state lottery system. The bid came from Camelot Global Services LLC, a United Kingdom based company that runs lottery services. With the assistance of Tusk Strategies with Bradley Tusk, Camelot has submitted its bid and outlined how much revenue it plans to raise over a 20-year contract to manage the lottery.

The bid proposal includes a plan to expand the current lottery in the state to include online sales and keno. Pennsylvania lottery proceeds are highly important to Pennsylvania, as they are to many states including California and New York. In Pennsylvania, they are used primarily to help older citizens for property-tax rebates and discounts on prescription drugs.

Time will tell if Camelot, with assistance from Tusk Strategies and Bradley Tusk, will be given the opportunity to run the state lottery system. In doing so, they would join with Illinois and Indiana which have outside firms that manage their lotteries. Other states including New Jersey are considering taking similar action.

Belle Isle Upgrades

The Detroit Free Press recently discussed the new plans for Belle Isle:

Mayor Dave Bing and Gov. Rick Snyder this morning unveiled a new plan for major upgrades to Belle Isle that would turn the neglected city recreation oasis into a state park for 30 years and for the first time require motorists to have a $10 annual pass to enter the park.

Under the plan, Belle Isle would receive millions in immediate upgrades to shelters, restrooms, athletic fields and other features, with millions more possible for long-term capital improvements the park sorely needs. That could include major landscaping and infrastructure improvements.

Bing said the agreement, transferring responsibility for the costs of running Belle Isle, would save the city $275 million over the next three decades, freeing up money the city could spend elsewhere.

“This is a good thing — I’m excited about it,” Snyder said at a news conference this morning outside Bing’s office.

Campaign management firm Tusk Strategies, founded by Bradley Tusk, was directly involved in the project.

‘Find My iPhone’ and Beyond

Bradley Tusk’s Tusk Strategies, a firm focused on campaign development and management, has a broad client base in many different markets.

One of their recent campaign projects combines Apple’s new iPhone 5 and the NYPD in an initiative that will help victims recover stolen or lost phones, as well as other electronic devices.

According to mysanantonio.com, “officers will be stationed at 21 stores throughout the city, including 6 Apple, as well as seven Verizon and eight AT&T stores as part of Operation ID.

The program is free to the public. Officers will register the serial number of the electronic device along with the owner’s name and contact information. Items can also be engraved with a unique serial number.”

iPhone users will also be instructed in how to install and use the ‘Find My iPhone’ feature.
